One Mum shares her different personal experiences with settling in her two daughters at Early Days before returning to work.

"When my oldest daughter, Stephanie, started in Class I at Early Days she settled in very well, in fact so well I wondered what I had been worrying about. She was 7 months old so I was naturally anxious and had mixed emotions about returning to work and leaving her at nursery. But having had visits to the nursery beforehand, when my first day back at work actually came the drop off went smoothly. The nursery staff even called me a few minutes afterwards to re-assure me.
However, my second daughter, Daniella was a different character and to my surprise was clingy. Working alongside her keyworker, we took it step by step and tailored Daniella's settling in which for her meant more but shorter visits before starting full days at Early Days. I in turn managed my return to work around this.
If there’s a practical tip I could give to other Mum’s it would be to plan in your settling in sessions in advance to give you and your child time to get used to the new routine before starting work. You’ll feel more relaxed which, in turn, will rub off on your child”.
