Early Days Nursery

The nursery has three classes:

  • Hedgehogs - from 5 months to 2.5 years.

  • Squirrels - 2-3 years.

  • Owls - 3-5 years.

With three classes, Early Days provides experienced staff, age-appropriate resources and spaces to support your child’s individual needs. Each room opens onto a covered outside area, allowing children to move freely between the indoors and outdoors thus providing additional opportunities to learn outside in the fresh air. We plan experiences around whole nursery themes based on children’s interests including transport, animals, food, our bodies, seasonal experiences and celebrations. Alongside this your child’s key person will plan individual learning activities based on observations of their individual interests and personal learning and development.

At Early Days, we work to the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework ensuring children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. We have developed our own curriculum and support children developing within all seven areas of the curriculum including the three 'Prime' areas of: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Physical Development and the four 'Specific' areas of Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. Children learn through play and exploration, active learning and by creating and thinking critically, providing them with the right foundations for good future progress.

We provide an environment in which all children, including those with Additional Educational Needs, are supported to reach their full potential. We have an experienced SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator) who ensures our provision meets the needs of each individual child.

We take our duty of care very seriously to ensure that the rights and safety of children are protected.  We work with children, parents/carers and the wider community to ensure that our children have the best and securest start in life.  All staff undertake Safeguarding training and there is a Designated Safeguaring Lead and Deputy Lead member of staff at the nursery at all times.

In addition, the nursery has a wealth of experience working with children who have additional needs.  These children are welcome into the nursery and we adapt routines and support their individual needs.

Early Days also has experience of children who have English as an Additional Language and we work with families to ensure we understand each child’s culture and their language development.

We have a main room for babies and toddlers up to 2.5 years of age, offering opportunities for messy play, imaginary play, physical play, building and small world play with vehicles and animals, and a cosy/story corner all set in a homely environment. Children regularly join in with singing during our popular song bag sessions and enjoy playing in the outdoors. Staff are specifically trained to support the three prime areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional development, Communication and Language development and Physical development. Additionally we have a lovely wooden chalet building which is well-resourced to support our older babies, to further stimulate and support their growing independence.  Core songs are introduced around our nursery themes.  Our separate cosy and calm sleep room is set up to suit individual sleeping needs.

Around the age of two, children will move through to Squirrels.  We provide children, around the age of two onwards, a slightly more structured environment in our pre-school room. This offers opportunities for learning across all areas of the curriculum including the specific areas of Literacy, Numeracy, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. The room is set up into areas of learning including role play, book corner, maths area, mark making/writing area, creative area, construction area, investigation area, sand and water and small world play. Children participate in age appropriate activities like cookery, arts and crafts, story-times, gardening, funky fingers, music and movement, PE, singing and group times, supporting them in gaining skills ready for school.

Additionally, throughout the year the children may enjoy:

  • Woodland School and nature walks

  • Christmas Party and Concert

  • Easter Egg Hunt and celebrations

  • Sports Day

  • Graduation Ceremony

  • Nature Rambles

PLUS a wide range of Adult Led Activities in our Squirrels and Owls rooms.

All staff are experienced in working with parents to settle new children. We offer a flexible induction period, allowing individual children and families to work with the nursery in developing a settling in programme of visits that works for them. Initially parents/carers stay with their child/children getting to know the nursery and their key person. When parents are happy to leave their child, a short visit on their own is planned before staying for longer sessions.

To ensure the children’s health, safety, well-being, learning and development we have a comprehensive set of policies which are available for all to read within the nursery. These include:-
